New Zealand's most tech-forward waste company

To most people, waste management is boring. To some, it's a massive opportunity - households, businesses, construction sites, landscapers, famers, and more all need this essential service.

KiwiSkip's edge in the industry is a great customer service, and more sustainable operating model - maximising recyling and reducing the overall carbon footprint.

With this, they scaled to 20+ employees and hundreds of daily orders. This could be an operational nightmare, and one that demands custom software to take on all the repetitive tasks. We spend 6 months re-thinking the whole business, and built the "The Platform", to help them scale into the future. "The Platform" takes care of all the repetitive computers are good at:

  • Accepting customer orders via the retail website
  • Taking payments, either via invoices (Xero), cards, afterpay, cash or eftpos
  • Dispatch - streamlining delivery/pickup routes, tracking data
  • Tracking data - waste accumulation and outflows
  • Organising Customers, Jobs, Payments, Waste tracking in one place
  • User-accessable insights - to help businesses to reduce their carbon foorprint
  • Spotting operational inefficiencies - Maximising asset utilisation, customer satisfaction and repetiative tasks. And Revenue, that part is important to any business.

My two favourite features to build were:

  • The "Dispatch system" - Up to 500 jobs are rendered onto a map, with the most efficient route selected.
  • The "Weighbridge sync" tool - When a driver arrives onto a weighbridge, they can track load/empty/tare weights all from an iPad.
